WHY IT MATTERS:
Impact

MEASURING OUR SUCCESS

The following indicators help to show the success of our programs and the growth of our students.

Personal Development Skills

Each summer, Summerbridge conducts student assessment surveys to evaluate student growth in five key areas: English language skills, self-confidence, leadership, teamwork, and love of learning. While the survey measures growth over the summer, the impact of Summerbridge is also meant to last beyond a student’s time at Summerbridge. The following graphs show the results from our most recent survey in 2019. In recent years, the survey was paused for purposes of social distancing and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

English Language Skills

Summerbridge graduates consistently achieve better results on their Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) English results compared to the Hong Kong average. Over the past 5 years, 95% Summerbridge student graduates have attained a passing result of 2 or above, in comparison to the Hong Kong citywide average of 79%.

Becoming Future Leaders

The process of teaching, coupled with a collaborative work environment, gives student teachers first-hand experience to build necessary skills for leadership - empathy, teamwork, and organization. By becoming role models to students, student teachers come to realize the leadership roles they can play in the community. No matter what career they’ve chosen, student teacher alumni often express gratitude to Summerbridge for the skills and experiences they gained.

Deeper Sense of Giving Back to the Community

By interacting with local students from around Hong Kong, student teachers come to see the world differently. Their perceptions of education, service, and the community are changed. Taking into account their Summerbridge experience, student teachers are able to clarify how they want to best serve the people around them, whether through their career choices or further volunteer opportunities.
