WHY IT MATTERS:
Success Stories

Every year, we see and hear stories of students and student teachers being impacted by Summerbridge in life-changing ways. The effect of Summerbridge is not limited to a summer - for many, the impact is far greater. Students like Xavier Chan apply to Summerbridge expecting little, not knowing that they’ve found a place to learn, grow, and teach for the next ten years. For student teachers like Kevin Wong, multiple summers of teaching at Summerbridge fundamentally shape the career choices they make and the way they give back to the community. Below, we share their stories, along with others, of the incredible and long-lasting impact of Summerbridge.

OUR STUDENTS

Xavier Chan

Summerbridge Student: 1997 & 1998

Xavier first came across Summerbridge when he met Mr. David James in 1997, then the Chairman of Summerbridge, who was tutoring in the local community. From that moment, Xavier’s life trajectory was inexorably changed. Following his two years as a student, Xavier chose to give back to Summerbridge, returning for multiple summers first as a student teacher, then later as an administrator. In all, Xavier spent 11 summers with Summerbridge. Nowadays, Xavier is living his dream of helping the local community and working as a social worker at a secondary school in Hong Kong.
